Advocacy

Menlo Spark advocates for bold clean energy policies that protect our climate and communities. We work with coalition partners at the local, regional, and state level to electrify buildings, phase out fossil fuels, and ensure a just transition that prioritizes underserved communities.

Clean Air Rules at the Bay Area Air District

FIGHTING FOR CLEAN AIR

We're working to support the Bay Area Air District stand strong in their passage of the nation's first standards to ensure that when gas water heaters and furnaces need replacement, families get clean, efficient electric heat pumps instead. These standards create a clear pathway for millions of residents to switch to clean electric heating.

Reach Codes: Clean Energy Building Requirements

ADVOCATING REACH CODES

We advanced Menlo Park’s adoption of one of the most comprehensive building electrification and "reach code" packages in California. We played a key role in resolving legal and policy barriers to preserve flexible pathways for sustainable home remodels.

In the past, our advocacy helped Menlo Park became one of the first cities in the nation to adopt "reach codes" - policies that help phase out gas appliances - by providing technical resources to city staff and garnering community support.

Making Schools Safer

ELECTRIFY MENLO PARK CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT

We advocated for Menlo Park City School District to begin the process of replacing gas furnaces with heat pumps across all five campuses, eliminating pollution exposure for 2,700+ students and staff.
